Frank Smoll is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Washington. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Ripon College and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. As an undergraduate, Frank played on championship basketball and baseball teams, and he is a member of Ripon’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Dr. Smoll’s research focused on coaching behaviors in youth sports and on the psychological effects of competition on children and youth. He published more than 145 scientific articles and book chapters, and he authored/co-authored 25 books and manuals on children’s athletics. Frank has extensive experience in conducting psychologically-oriented coaching clinics and workshops for parents of young athletes.
Professor Smoll is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the National Academy of Kinesiology, and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). He is an AASP Certified Mental Performance Consultant (inactive) and was the recipient of AASP’s 2002 Distinguished Professional Practice Award. In 2008, Frank was named a Sports Ethics Fellow by the Institute for International Sports, which honored him as a “pioneer in researching ways to improve youth sports.”

Jake Warde founded Warde Publishers, Inc. in 1992. The company focuses on educational material for youth sport administrators, coaches, and parents. Jake played tennis as a young athlete and went on to play college tennis for Stanford University. This background in sports sparked his interest in publishing for the youth sports market. The colloboration with Dr. Smoll also began in 1992. Over 250,000 volumes have been distributed to youth sports teams by this author-publisher team!
In addtion to operating websites for Warde Publishers, Jake is currently a freelance developmental editor for college level textbooks and courseware in a wide variety of disciplines. He estimates he has been involved in the development of over 600 college textbooks, and still counting.
