Mastery Approach to Parenting in Sports
If sports are to make the greatest possible contribution to youngsters’ development, parents must be well-informed and involved. Mothers and fathers can learn to be successful sport parents by watching the Mastery Approach to Parenting in Sports (MAPS) video.
The MAPS video teaches parents how to create a mastery climate—a learning environment that emphasizes skill development, personal and team success, maximum effort, and fun. Similar to the Sports and Your Young Athlete eBook, the video uses the “Champions in Sports and Life” approach. A major theme is thus emphasized: What young athletes learn in sports carries over into their everyday lives.
The MAPS video is based on decades of experience in youth sport coaching and parent education. The program was originally developed and delivered as a 60-minute live, in-person workshop. It was then transformed into a 45-minute self-instruction video. To watch a 2-minute preview, click here.
